If you’re a working parent who spends most of your time at home with the kids, then you know that your living space needs to be both kid- and adult-friendly. Most likely, you also have to find ways to make your living space more conducive to your work needs. Below are eight ideas to help you redecorate your home and make it more enjoyable for the whole family.

1. Add Some Natural Light

Adding more natural light is a great way to add a comfortable feeling of space without drastically altering any single element in your home. By adding windows or skylights you can allow sunlight through to your walls and ceilings, giving off a cozy glow.

2. Create a Home Office Space

Whether you’re working from home full-time or just on weekends, creating a dedicated space for your home office is crucial. If you have kids and pets running around, consider a partitioned area where you can focus without distractions and not have to worry about leaving work items around on your kitchen table.

3. Add Shelves With Baskets

If you have a small laundry space, make better use of it by hanging shelves on one wall and putting baskets on them. You can use them for laundry detergent, fabrics that need cleaning or pressing, and other laundry supplies.

4. Add Special Lighting Effects

LED lighting strips can give your home a more contemporary look and feel. Not only are these strips cool and attractive, they’re also highly functional. You can program them to turn on when it gets dark outside or turn off when there is no activity in a room.

5. Reupholster Furniture

Reupholstering furniture is a great way to give old pieces a new lease on life. Not only does it breathe new life into tired, worn-out furniture, but it can also save you money in the long run. When you reupholster a piece of furniture, you are essentially giving it a brand new skin. This means that you can choose from a wide range of fabrics to find one that perfectly suits your style. Check into local upholstery shops in our area; costs will typically depend on

6. Build an Island Into Your Kitchen

If you have children or other family members who like hanging out in your kitchen, build an island into your design. Islands not only provide extra counter space and storage, but they also create a barrier between you and your loved ones so that you can still make dinner (or do whatever else it is that you need to do) without any distractions.

7. Use Bright Colors and Patterns

Get some ideas from your kids about their favorite colors and patterns. To create a playful environment, go for bold colors and designs that will keep your children happy in their room. If you want walls with a rich texture, you can use peel-and-stick wallpaper. This wallpaper comes in unique designs, and it’s removable which makes it ideal for renters.

8. Look for Somewhere New

Consider finding a new home if you can't make the changes you need in your current building. If you're looking to rent, you can use sites that list rental properties in your area within your budget. Purchasing a new home can be a challenge, and being ready is critical, so research the housing market in your target location. In addition, if you have room in your budget, make a habit of saving ahead of your move.

A Space You Love

Make your home a space you love. Whether you’re designing a home office that maximizes productivity, reupholstering your furniture, or just letting more natural light into your home, these tips will make any space a comfortable place where family and friends can enjoy your company.
